Strictly Dresses was founded in 2010 by Alexandra Subris. After visiting boutiques in her local area in search of an evening gown for an upcoming event, Alex was shocked at the poor selection of sizes, old fashioned styles and outrageous prices. After searching online, she found no websites selling high quality fashionable and reasonably priced dresses and recognised a very real problem for many women that she wanted to help resolve.
At the height of a recession, Alex recognised that demand for such a high priced product was in steep decline, so set about trying to find out the true cost of manufacturing luxury evening dresses. After discovering the huge mark-ups both manufacturers and department stores apply to their garments, Alex seized the opportunity for someone to offer the same quality garment and service, but at a fraction of the price.
By forming her own design team and dealing directly with manufacturers, Alex found she could stock the latest styles months before they hit the stores and offer them exclusively through the Strictly Dresses website. She teamed up with her sister, herself a fashion designer, and they began to create their own styles straight from the catwalk and red carpet.
After months of searching worldwide, Alex managed to track down a number of reputable suppliers and finally got them to agree to work with her to produce her own designs but in limited quantities to ensure exclusivity to Strictly Dresses. Knowing that fashion meant nothing without first class quality for a high end product she enlisted the help of Pamela, her Technical Director. The experience Pamela brought with her emphasised the importance of structure within Alex’s designs, meaning every stunning gown we produce is fully lined and has inbuilt support features, such as boning, to ensure that all our dresses are both functional and maintain shape whilst worn. What’s more, all embellishments are hand sewn and never glued to retain the high end quality of the product.
Recognising the demand for glamorous but wearable plus-size evening gowns, Strictly Dresses are proud to bring you a fabulous collection for Autumn 2011. Already proving popular with our customers, we now have plans to extend this range for the Spring 2012 season.
The Strictly Dresses design team add new products to the collections each month to keep in line with current trends and we now have a full time customer service team to deal with your order quickly and efficiently. As the Strictly Dresses brand grows, so too does our following as more and more people discover our stunning evening wear and special occasion gowns.
